Santa Clarita — Planning Commissioner and City Council candidate Diane Trautman took strong exception today to the wording of an opponent’s recent mail piece, which attempts to distinguish her opponent’s record at the expense of her own.

A mail piece sent out in the last couple of days by Bob Spierer intentionally ignores efforts by Planning Commissioner Diane Trautman by claiming he is the only candidate working towards the expansion of the hospital.

“This mail piece totally ignores the many hundreds of hours I spent as a planning commissioner holding numerous meetings, working through issues at public hearing, and responding to the public and hospital officials alike,” Trautman said. “I’m not trying to take anything away from Bob. But to say that he is the only candidate to be tackling this issue is a most unfortunate use of wording, one has the effect of turning this important hospital issue into a divisive political wedge.”

“I would also like to point out,” Trautman continued, “that, our planning commission meetings actually had some positive results. I led the opposition to a development agreement which did not give the city any acute care beds, and which would have given away much of the city’s ability to adjust the expansion over time to accommodate unpredictable city growth patterns. I and my fellow planning commissioners felt at the time that the project the commission passed on to the city council, while not perfect, was a better project than the original proposal.”
