Immigration

We have to start with the understanding that we are a nation of immigrants in need of a better system. We’re not going to stem the flow of undocumented workers without a comprehensive plan on the part of our federal government. Given our current system, our City Council needs to look at the most pressing issues and find effective relief within our own community:

Local citizens must understand the potential liabilities of hiring undocumented workers, such as injuries occurring on their property. I support strong educational programs to educate our citizens about these matters.

I would reduce the demand for street hires by encouraging potential employers to hire screened workers through a qualified service provider (e.g., Labor Finders).

We, the taxpayers of Santa Clarita, are spending $16 million annually for Public Safety through our contract with the Sheriff’s Department. Our Sheriff’s deputies have to be focused on preventing and addressing crimes. They should issue citations to people who stop or park illegally in order to pick up day laborers or otherwise break the law.

I hope this answers your question. If you would like to discuss this further, please call me at (661) 310-3654.
